Miên man miên man, vậy mà cũng hết ngày.

leave your world behind

Cos it's the night for the Paranormal activity!
I watched the first part when it was in theatre a year ago in singapore. Man, it scared me like even a week after that. I think the Paramount picture was really smart to think of that kind of movie. Yes, "based on true story" is old-fashioned. You have to prove it, you have to show the audiences "what? where? who? why? how?" , what shows it's based on a true story. Aw, however, my eyes really tired out during the movie... Yea and I think they put that handycam style of videography in order to attack on audience's feelings. Since you feel dizzy and headache, your mind is in weak condition, hence you're more likely to be haunted.
I watched the second part of the show this Saturday night, 10.30pm with a group of friends. They were willing to scream with me and discuss with me about the scariest part. Part 2 takes time before Part 1 happens. It explains everything why the demon things in part 1 occur. To be honest, I really enjoyed the whole show when combining these two parts together.
In addition, the trailer of part 2 scores the goal, too. I was like "Man, I have to go and watch that movie", it was short, blue/green (whatever), and makes use of the sequences of part I very well.
Oh, and I ran to the trailer of Saw Final when I was sitting in the cinema and waiting for the show to begin as well. That was... omg, really good trailer. Technology is a star, yeah. I remembered the trailer for It came from Outer space. It used the same technique. However, of course, today trailer makers are smarter. They make you feel by yourself, and you will come to the cinema eagerly.
I was about to write a review for You Again, but... again, it was... nothing to write. It was good, nice comedy which is perfectly fine for a Friday night movie. The trailer was long, yet, funny, yet, still long. Haha. But you have to watch the TV spot for You Again... you're gonna want to watch it "again , again and again"

4:30 proposal

This is the very beginning of my final project.

Final Project Proposal

The movie I plan to use for my final project is 4:30 (2006), a Singaporean movie, directed by Royston Tan, starring Xiao Li Yuan (from Singapore) and Kim Young Jun (from Korea). 4:30 uses “a lot of late night shoots”, little dialogs and more body language in order to illustrate the unspoken connection between the two main characters. This is a dramatic genre feature film starring two actors from different countries who speak different languages; hence the languages of 4:30 are Korean, Mandarin and English. It is almost a psychological movie which describes the connection between “two paths” that once crossing each other.

The trailer begins with the boy sitting in the dark with Korean voiceover. After that, the screen changes into the clock that switches into 4:30 am and there’s a serie of scenes where the boy is alone together with softly music over. The other main character only appears at two-third of the trailer. I think that trailer briefly tells us what the type and story of the movie are. However, it is not balanced since the other character appears only for two scenes. The boy, on the other hand, seizes most of the scenes of the trailer. It may lead to misunderstand of the trailer. In addition, I don’t see any connection between the plot and the title of the movie- 4:30, except for the first scene where the clock turns to 4:30 am. Yet, the trailer is supposed not to reveal a whole plot of the movie; it is at least supposed to show the connection of theme, plot and the characters. It may lead to confusion for the audiences to decide whether 4:30 is worth paying to watch. Thus, I may make the conclusion that the trailer of 4:30 doesn’t appeal to the audience. It contains discrete segments that don’t really relevant to the theme of the movie.

In order to improve it, I would like to repeat an image of 4:30 in the trailer. The boy is doing something in 4:30 am, therefore I must repeat it to evoke the curiosity of the audience. Moreover, the other character also has to be appeared more on the scene because the movie is about the connection of two people. That character is also a key character that contributes to the theme of 4:30. I am also thinking of taking voiceover in order to make the trailer not seem to be boring.

Social Network

The Social Network movie was in theatre on Oct. 01. Lucky me that I could watch this show today. The trailer of it was good, I would say.
Social Network trailer is using both rhetorics of genre and story. This is a drama film following storytelling style. I watched a couple of movies like this before and to be honest, I don't really like storytelling type. In Feb 2010, I watched True Legend - a Chinese movie starring Vincent Zhao and Zhao Xun- telling lifestory of Su Can (Chinese material art legend in inventing his insane form). The movie was spectacular, yet, too boring to follow till the end. Its trailer did not appeal, too. Like I mentioned, I'm not too interested in storytelling drama genre since I can know the end, everybody knows the end of the story. The trailer begins with several captures of Facebook, how people deal with life through facebook, how they communicate through facebook, and how popular facebook is. And here comes the story of it, of about how Mark Zuckerberg came up with his idea of inventing Facebook.
It's interesting because people love Facebook, people are interested in facebook, it is popular enough to be in the movie. The trailer maker knows that. The idea of "you can have 2 hours and 15 minutes experience of being a computer science major student and working with code, domain and even lawsuits" is clearly reflected in the trailer. The music, the dialogs which are brought into the trailer match with your feeling which you are expected to feel during the movie. I wanted to watch that movie when I first saw the trailer, however, like I said, I still don't like storytelling type even watching Social Network.
The casting is good, actually. I googled after the movie and knew that the real Mark didn't want himself to be in movie while he's still alive. However, Jesse Eisenberg played Mark well, a typical stubborn "a**hole* CS major guy who lacks of social skill but is smart enough to come up with better idea of connection.
I am not a Justin Timberlake's fan, thus didn't recognize him during trailer. However, Social network is smart when using that hidden rhetoric of stardom. I came to big surprise when seeing his name on screen before the show.
